It's funny how life works sometimes.
About an hour before I was supposed to leave on a trip for Houston I ended up running over a broken wine bottle in the
street right outside my apartment.
The result of which cost me two tires on the passenger side of the car.
Not content with uneven wearing tires, I went ahead and had them replace the 4 Continental Extreme contact DW summer
tires with another set of the exact same.

In other news, the ECU re-flash had brought to light some pinging issues from 5500 RPM to fuel cut.
After installing a new fuel pump the problem still persisted, so I sent the ECU in for a second re-flash which was far more
conservative in it's tune than the first, adding allot of fuel and removing some timing.
Unfortunately this didn't do anything to help the problem.

After a little research I found out that this issue had been documented before over on mazda-speed.com, and the solution
was to change out the PCV valve or bypass it entirely.
With almost 80,000 miles on the stock PCV valve, it couldn't hurt to change it out, so one quick trip to the parts store later
Kiryu was rolling again, and ping-free to boot.

After I solved the knock issue, Stephanie at BEGi very graciously offered to re-flash the ECU again for me and to put my
original performance tune back on it, which I took her up on.
A few days later my ECU was back on the car and running great, albeit a little richer thanks to the new fuel pump (nothing
an intake kit won't cure.)

Now that the fun stuff is out of the way (for now), Kiryu's next major expense comes in the way of the timing belt and water
pump service next week at Gas Head Motorworks in Houston TX.
